Brooks King-Casas, an assistant professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, was recognized as Scholar of the Week on the Virginia Tech research website on July 9. The Office of the Vice President for Research gives the honor to Virginia Tech faculty members who are doing outstanding work in their fields. The goal of the program is to recognize individuals while also telling people about research and scholarly activities at the university.

King-Casas’s research focuses on post-traumatic stress disorder and mild traumatic brain injury among returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. He is interested in how the brain coordinates all of the complex problems that are involved in negotiating social settings. His investigations into the brain regions, chemistry, and processes involved in trust could lead to a better understanding of how psychiatric illness can impact neural processes.
