“The Labile Brain: Neuroplasticity Across the Lifespan,” held March 7 and March 8, is the 25th Annual Symposium of the
 Central Virginia Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. This year’s program, co-sponsored by the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, will include a series of talks on the plasticity of the nervous system at the intracellular, intercellular, and neuroanatomical levels. Speakers will explore how changes in the brain affect the organization of the nervous system and the consequent adaptive and maladaptive behaviors.

Three keynote speakers will be featured:

  • Darwin Berg, PhD, distinguished professor and chair of neurobiology at the University of California, San Diego, will speak on “Nicotinic Control of Neural Nets”;

  • Marina Wolf, PhD, professor and chair of neuroscience at Chicago Medical School, will speak on “Plasticity of Group I mGluR-AMPAR Interactions in the Nucleus Accumbens During Cocaine Withdrawal: Basis for Anti-Craving Drugs?”; and

  • Alvaro Pascual-Leone, MD, PhD, professor
 in neurology and associate dean for clinical and translational research at Harvard Medical School and
director of the Berenson-Allen Center for Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation
at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, will speak on
 “Characterizing and Guiding Human Brain Plasticity and Network Dynamics.”

The cost of attending is $85 for faculty members; $50 for postdoctoral fellows, residents, and technicians; and $20 for undergraduate and graduate students.
