George Cartledge III

George B. Cartledge III is the president of Grand Home Furnishings — a successful furniture company headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, with 17 store locations in Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

The company was founded in 1910, and purchased by the Cartledge family in 1945. It has been a family-run business for the past 70 years, with George B. Cartledge III serving as president for more than 20 years.

In December 2005, industry newspaper Furniture Today ranked Grand Home Furnishings as the 58th largest furniture retailer in the United States, with annual sales of $111 million.

His family also operates the Cartledge Charitable Foundation, which gives primarily to the arts and culture, higher education, social services, health associations, and youth organizations. The foundation has given upwards of 240,000 grants during its 50-year existence.

Cartledge serves as treasurer on the 2016-2017 North Cross School Board of Trustees, as well as on the boards of Mill Mountain Theatre, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, and the Finance Committee of the Carilion Medical Center.

He attended Hampden-Sydney College and finished out his education at Virginia Tech. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and finance from Virginia Tech in 1986.
