Fralin Biomedical Research Institute Principles of Human Dignity and Non-Discrimination

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in Roanoke, Virginia affirms its support for justice and human dignity for all. As such, we embrace those principles as articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We reject all forms of discrimination including those based on age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion and sexual orientation, whether such discrimination is enabled by individuals, organizations or government agencies.

Targeting people of color with violence and depriving them of human dignity, is cruel, unjust, and inhumane. We will not be silent on these matters now and we will speak out in opposition to such injustices whenever they occur.

We will actively promote diversity and inclusion in our workplace and in our community. We will not accept discrimination including in the recruitment, hiring, support, mentorship, career advancement and education of students, faculty and staff at any level of our organization.

These principles were formed through a series of listening sessions and discussions among the staff, students and faculty of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in alignment with Virginia Tech's Principles of Community and the university's Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Sexual Assault.
