Sharon Ramey recognized as Scholar of the Week
Sharon Landesman Ramey, Ph.D.
Sharon Ramey, a professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, was recognized as Scholar of the Week on the Virginia Tech research website on March 5. The Office of the Vice President for Research gives the honor to Virginia Tech faculty members who are doing outstanding work in their fields. The goal of the program is to recognize individuals while also telling people about research and scholarly activities at the university.
Ramey was selected for her work to discover and develop programs that will help children develop intellectually, socially, and physically. As a developmental scientist, she studies the multiple social and environmental influences on prenatal and early child development, the transition to school and academic achievement, family dynamics, and inter-generational vitality and competence. Ramey received the recognition for her trials to improve health and education outcomes of vulnerable children; her commitment to improving the provision of health, education, and social services to benefit children and families; and her role in the development of novel treatments for children with disabilities and at-risk conditions.
