Read Montague’s participation in a panel discussion at the Fifth Annual Triangle Law and Economics Conference was recently made available online, as were individual clips of his answers to questions.

The Duke Law and Economics Society hosts the conference annually, and this year’s theme was Rethinking Regulation with Behavioral Economics. Top scientists, economists, professors, and CEOs gathered from across the country to explore how behavioral approaches may be incorporated into our existing economic regulations.

Montague, director of the Computational Psychiatry Unit at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, spoke about whether behavioral economics is capable of helping society improve. Montague spoke about how science can be used to inform changes in the law for the better, but he also warned that science may not be able to answer what we should do as a society.
