Steven Poelzing inducted as a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society
Steven Poelzing, Ph.D.
Steven Poelzing, an associate professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, was recently honored as a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society. The honor recognizes Poelzing’s research contributions to understanding cardiac arrhythmia.
In a healthy heart, electricity is conducted individually through cardiac cells in sync so the heart can contract and release properly. In arrhythmia, that conduction is interrupted. Poelzing studies how the conduction occurs in the first place and why it might be disrupted.
The Heart Rhythm Society was founded in 1979 to provide a community for clinicians and researchers in the field of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology.
