Sharon George awarded the Francis Scholarship

Sharon George was recently named the recipient of the David W. Francis and Lillian Francis Scholarship for the 2015–2016 academic year.

George, a graduate student in Virginia Tech–Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences, conducts research in Steven Poelzing’s laboratory at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute. George, who is completing her doctorate degree, studies how cardiac cells time their communications, as well as how to treat miscommunications between the cells.

The Francis Scholarship is awarded to a student for the final year of his or her doctorate program to cover their tuition for that year and provide a living stipend. George was nominated by the School of Biomedical Engineering for her research contribution to promoting “longer, safer, and healthier lives,” as required by the scholarship requirements.
