Retinoblastoma: Bridging Developmental Neurobiology and Cancer Genetics

January 14, 2013, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Justina D. McEvoy, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Developmental Neurobiology, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, R3012
2 Riverside Circle, Roanoke, VA 24016

Dr. McEvoy’s characterization of the human retinoblastoma genome revealed epigenetic deregulation of multiple cancer and developmental pathways. This discovery led to the identification of novel therapeutic targets that were not previously considered for treating retinoblastoma. Dr. McEvoy’s findings demonstrate that deregulation of epigenetic mechanisms in the developing retina contributes to retinoblastoma tumor progression.
