DNA Methylation and Chromatin Architecture: The Nuts and Bolts of Gene Regulation

January 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Paul A. Wade, PhD

Senior Investigator, Molecular Carcinogenesis Laboratory/Eukaryotic Transcriptional Regulation Group, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, R3012
2 Riverside Circle, Roanoke, VA 24016

All cells in a metazoan organism have the same blueprint in the form of genomic DNA sequence. The elaboration of cell-type-specific gene expression programs utilizes additional information in the form of DNA modification and the nucleoprotein organization of the chromatin fiber. In this seminar, Dr. Wade will present his laboratory’s current studies addressing how DNA modification and chromatin organization impact DNA function.
