Ann Harvey, PhD, a research scientist at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, will share insights from neuroscience into the real, biological influence of advertising on the brain. Her research focuses on human decision-making, particularly how cultural messages—including ideas, narratives, brands, and social gestures—influence those decisions.

The event is free, as is museum admission starting that day at 3:30 p.m. in advance of Dr. Harvey’s presentation.

About the Speaker:

Ann Harvey, PhD is a research scientist at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute and director of the Roanoke Brain Study. Dr. Harvey’s area of research is human decision-making and how different cultural messages such as narratives and social gestures can influence how people make decisions. Dr. Harvey received her bachelor’s in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University and her doctorate in neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine, where she also received her postdoctoral training.
