A View of Cortex from the Thalamus

September 26, 2014, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

S. Murray Sherman, PhD

Professor and Chairman of Neurobiology, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, R3012
2 Riverside Circle, Roanoke, VA 24016

This talk will provide evidence that areas of the cerebral cortex are often connected in parallel by direct and trans-thalamic pathways. Dr. Sherman will offer speculation regarding why this parallel arrangement exists, what is different about these pathways, and the possible special role in brain function played by the trans-thalamic pathways.
