W. Scott Arnold, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Carilion Clinic, will commence the series with an introduction to the normal anatomy and physiology of the heart, including how it pumps blood to the rest of the body. He will also present critical aspects of heart disease, including restriction of normal blood flow, heart attack, heart failure, and a range of interventions to treat these disorders.

About the Speaker:
W. Scott Arnold, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Carilion Clinic. He attended medical school and completed an internship and residency at the University of Virginia. He completed two fellowships, one in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Virginia, and one in surgical oncology at the National Institute of Health. Dr. Arnold's treatment interests include aortic aneurysms, aortic valve disease, atrial septal defects, chest tumors, coronary artery disease, heart failure, hyperhidrosis, lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and mitral valve disease.
