Robert J. Alpern, MD
Chronic Metabolic Acidosis: The Progression From Scientific Concept to Clinical Importance to Therapy
Ensign Professor of Medicine (Nephrology); Dean, Yale School of Medicine
2 Riverside Circle, Roanoke, VA 24016
Dr. Alpern’s seminar will start with a discussion of basic science research defining the cellular response to chronic metabolic acidosis. He will then review the accumulating evidence that chronic small changes in blood pH, sometimes unmeasurable, have profound effects on health. Dr. Alpern will conclude with an analysis of the approach of a biomedical startup company to develop a therapy for chronic metabolic acidosis in patients with kidney disease.
