Katherine Cunningham, Ph.D.
Dr. Katherine Cunningham joined the lab in 2018 as a Research Psychologist at the Salem VA Medical Center and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion. Her research focuses on understanding the role of emotion in suicide risk, nonsuicidal self-injury, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among military Veterans. Dr. Cunningham has particular interests in emotion regulation, negative self-evaluative emotions (shame and guilt), and compassion. Dr. Cunningham holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The University of Tulsa and completed a VA Advanced Fellowship in Mental Illness Research and Treatment at the Durham VA Mid-Atlantic Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Centers (MIRECC).
