Biomedical Innovation Pitch Competition
The pitch is a collaboration between Virginia Tech’s Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health graduate program; the College of Engineering’s Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics; the Pamplin College of Business; the Apex Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute. The competition is the culmination of a two-week commercialization teaching block that introduces students from science, engineering, and business to learn the intricacies of translating biomedical research to the clinic and marketplace. Students learn about intellectual property, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, entrepreneurship and company startup and investment. On November 17, students will use this knowledge competing in teams to pitch business ideas based on Intellectual Property invented at Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and George Mason University with over $5,000 in prize money!
